HANSON − Fire damaged a garage and a home Sunday morning at 147 Gray Lane, according to a statement by Fire Chief Jerome Thompson posted on Twitter. The "moderate" fire was reported at 5:38 a.m.

The first crew to arrive, assisted by Hanson police officers, prevented most of the fire from spreading from the garage to the home. Police officers dragged several hundred feet of supply line to a hydrant.

With one Hanson engine called to Abington for a mutual aid response, Pembroke, Whitman, East Bridgewater and Halifax firefighters provided additional manpower and resources, while Hanover provided station coverage.

The sole occupant of the home escaped without injury, but the home was rendered "uninhabitable." The garage sustained "major damage" and the living area of the home had "moderate heat and smoke damage," according to the statement.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Nothing appears suspicious at this time, the news release said.
