A fire in Dania Beach Saturday morning damaged an apartment complex and left a family temporarily without a home.

The fire broke out at a one-story building at 9 S.W. 8th Ave. About 50 firefighters from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue units conducted an “aggressive fire attack” and were able to contain the fire damage to one bedroom, according to a news release from Battalion Chief Michael Kane.

“While we are happy to report that the entire family safely escaped the fire-stricken home without injury, sadly all five family members were displaced from this incident due to smoke and water damage,” the statement said. “Two adult women and three children ages 15, 9, and 4 will require further assistance. The Red Cross is assisting to fulfill the families immediate needs.”

The cause of the fire is unknown. The Florida State Fire Marshal is investigating.
