Fire destroys Grandview's downtown buildings and post office

Several families were displaced and a post office was destroyed after a fire in downtown Grandview on Friday.

At 4:28 p.m., Louisa County Dispatch received a call that a shop behind the address of 114 S. Main St. was on fire.

When crews arrived, the fire had already spread to three buildings, including the Grandview Post Office, located at 113 S. Main St.

All the tenants were removed before the fire overtook the buildings and mail was removed from the post office, according to the Louisa County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff deputies assisted in keeping the public away from the fire while crews fought the fire and worked to stop the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings and residences.

No one was injured in the fire.

All buildings that caught fire are considered a complete loss, including the post office, a bar, apartment complex, and a city shed.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The fire will be further investigated by the Iowa Fire Marshals Office and the Louisa County Sheriff's Office.

Several families were displaced by the fire, according to the sheriff's office.

The Louisa County Sheriff's Office, Grandview Fire Department, Alliant Energy, Columbus Junction Fire Department, Columbus Junction Police Department, Conesville Fire Department, Fruitland Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, Letts Fire Department, Louisa County Ambulance, Louisa County Emergency Management, Morning Sun Fire Department, Nichols Fire Department, Oakville Fire Department, State Fire Marshal, Red Cross, Wapello fire department and ambulance service, and several bystanders assisted in the response to the fire.
