Fire destroys large Nantucket home under construction Saturday morning

NANTUCKET — A heavy fire destroyed a large home under construction early Saturday morning, according to Deputy Chief Sean Mitchell of the Nantucket Fire Department.

Nantucket Fire received a call at 3:30 a.m. reporting the fire at 19 East Tristam Ave. where responders found a construction site with a large home fully involved in fire.

The first arriving engine attempted to contain the fire to the single building. Because there are no fire hydrants in the area, a water shuttle operation ensued.
