Fire engulfs Mykolaiv dispensary after strikes -emergency officials

STORY: Footage released by the Mykolaiv State Emergency Service showed firefighters battling flames in the building with multiple vehicles at the scene. The video also showed a large crater in the ground.

The Mykolaiv State Emergency Service said they extinguished a 1,614-square-foot fire in a dispensary in Zavodskyi district, close to the city center.

A demining unit was called to the shelling site, according to local authorities.

The location of the dispensary building was verified by file imagery.

The strikes resulted in further fires in a gymnasium, office buildings, as well as a number of utility buildings and a private residential building, authorities said.

Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych described the missile strikes on Sunday as "probably the most powerful on the city in five months of war, hitting homes and schools, with at least three others wounded. On Sunday evening he reported that strikes had resumed, but no information on casualties or damage was available.

Mykolaiv is a strategically important city that borders the mostly Russian-occupied Kherson region.

Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24 in what it called a "special operation" to demilitarize its neighbor. Ukraine and Western nations have dismissed this as a baseless pretext for war.
