Fire at family-owned Puyallup commercial farm burns for hours

A barn at a family-owned commercial farm in Puyallup caught fire Thursday night and firefighters remained at the scene on Friday.

At 9:23 p.m., East Pierce Fire & Rescue crews were called to Spooner Farms at 9710 state Route 162 in Puyallup.

Firefighters battled the flames for two hours before getting it under control. Crews were able to contain the fire to the building where it started.

Fire officials said a crew remained at the scene overnight putting out hot spots and keeping a watch on the flames.

No animals were hurt.

The barn that was used to store farm equipment and tools is a total loss.

Pierce County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Crews from Central Pierce Fire & Rescue and Orting Valley Fire & Rescue assisted.

According to the Spooner Farms website, the farm has been family-owned and farmed since 1882. It’s open to the public, is known for its berry harvest in the summer and holds a harvest festival in the fall.
