Fire At Italian Restaurant On Moody St Forces It To Close - Again

WALTHAM, MA — The first year for any new restaurant is particularly difficult, let alone during a pandemic. It was with high hopes that Stazione di Federal, which had only opened days before the coronavirus pandemic prompted its temporary closure, reopened last month. Then, just weeks after its reopening a kitchen fire Aug. 5 forced it to close yet again.

It was a blow to the staff, which had been furloughed and out of work longer than they were on the job at the Italian restaurant, according to Richard Brackett who is behind both Stazione di Federaland The Federal restaurant.

"Many have not been able to collect unemployment and those that could, gave up the Federal dollars to return to work," the managing partner of the restaurant told Patch.

So as the restaurant works on coming up with a reopening plan sometime in the months ahead, it's hoping to find a way to help the hourly staff.

Many of the staff are dealing with difficulties filing for unemployment, according to Brackett.

"With an uncertain reopening date ahead of us yet again, we're asking for any amount that you can donate to this selfless and inspiring team," according to the GoFundMe fund Brackett and his team set up to raise $50,000 for the staff.

As of Monday, nearly 90 people had raised a little more than $9,000 toward that goal.
