They found smoke in the building and an active fire near the electronics department that was being contained by the store’s sprinklers, according to Bokovitz.

The building was evacuated and no injuries were reported. Firefighters from Bainbridge Township and several nearby departments also responded.

A 43-year-old Amsterdam man believed to have started the fire is detained and expected to be formally charged upon release from a hospital, according to Bokovitz. Authorities have filed charges including aggravated arson and inducing panic.

The store, which sustained smoke and water damage, remained closed on Tuesday.

The store will remain closed “for a short time” for repairs and restocking, a Target spokesperson told FOX 8 News on Tuesday.

The next closest Target is near Macedonia, at 8282 Golden Link Blvd., Northfield. It’s open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
