The fire that began burning in vegetation near Mecca Tuesday was 80% contained as of late Wednesday morning, according to CalFire.

The agency said the fire, which started burning in a field on the northeast side of the intersection of Lincoln Street and Avenue 64 on the north side of Mecca, has not grown since 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night when it was measured at 39 acres.

The fire was first reported at about 9:10 a.m. Wednesday. By 3:30 p.m., officials said they had stopped the forward spread of the fire and had started to contain it.

No homes were placed under evacuation because of the fire, but power was briefly cut Tuesday to about 200 homes as lines were deenergized before it was later restored.

The fire was one of several that firefighters responded to in Riverside County Tuesday, including one near Banning that was fully contained by Wednesday morning and another near Beaumont that was 95% contained. The Day Fire, which is burning in Mead Valley between Perris and Moreno Valley, was 56 acres and 80% contained as of late Wednesday morning.
