UPDATE: Firefighting equipment, aircraft released from Lakehead Fire

An hour after a fire was reported just north of Lakehead along Interstate 5, firefighters said the blaze was about 2 acres, and forward progress was stopped on one side of the fire.

The fire, reportedly burning between I-5 and Lakeshore Drive, was reported just before 4 p.m. Sunday, according to emergency scanner traffic.

Forward progress was stopped on the fire along the southbound lanes of I-5 near a rest stop. The fire had spotted over the freeway near the northbound lanes, according to emergency scanner traffic.

Crews had nearly encircled the fire along the northbound lanes with fire hoses, according to firefighters at the scene of the blaze.

Water tankers and aircraft were being released from the fire at about 5 p.m., according to scanner reports.

Firefighters who first arrived at the scene of the fire reported that the fire was about 1 acre and burning at a moderate rate of spread.
