UPDATE: Hobby Fire, south of Redding, burns 12 acres, 80% contained

Update at 8:15 a.m. Saturday

The Hobby Fire south of Redding is now 80% contained and is still 12 acres in size, Cal Fire said.

The fire started Thursday about 4:15 p.m. behind the Redding RC and Hobby shop between Canyon Road and Highway 273.

Cal Fire said the fire was human caused in an area that is known to have significant activity from people who are unsheltered.

Update at 7 a.m., Friday

A grass and brush fire that broke out Thursday afternoon was 60% contained as of Friday morning, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The Hobby Fire burned 12 acres.

The fire, first reported at about 4:15 p.m., was reported behind the Redding RC and Hobby shop between Canyon Road and Highway 273, according to emergency radio traffic.

Cal Fire determined that the blaze was human caused in an area that is known to have significant activity from people who are unsheltered.

Update at 5 p.m., Thursday

Crews at the scene of the Hobby Fire south of Redding, along Highway 273, reported shortly before 5 p.m. that the fire had spread little, remaining at about 5 acres.

Crews were sent to a fire burning along Highway 273 south of Redding on Thursday afternoon.

The fire, first reported at about 4:15 p.m., was reported behind the Redding RC and Hobby shop between Canyon Road and Highway 273, according to emergency radio traffic.

Firefighters at the scene of the blaze reported that it had burned about 5 acres. There was no word about whether any structures were threatened by the fire.
