Fire rips through 'The Rigbie' apartment building in downtown Laurel Thursday night

Laurel firefighters responded to a burning apartment building Thursday night.

The blaze was reported just before 7 p.m. at 118 North Central Avenue at an apartment building known as "The Rigbie."

The structure is described as having 15 units in Laurel's 2018 comprehensive plan and was once home to the historic Rigbie Hotel.

No injuries were reported, according to the Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal, which is investigating the blaze. The cause and origin of the fire were not immediately known.

Officials said a fire assessment will be conducted to determine the amount of monetary loss to the building during the blaze.
