Fire on roof of middle school in Hall County caused by storm damage, officials say

Fire officials have confirmed a fire on the roof of a middle school in Hall County was started after HVAC units were damaged during an isolated storm Saturday morning.

Around 8:40 a.m. Hall County Fire Rescue arrived at West Hall Middle School, located on McEver Road after reports of smoke coming from the roof. When crews made it on top of the roof they noticed a small fire and smoke coming from two HVAC units.

The fire was put out and no one was injured.

At this time officials with the school said the fire left minimal damage.

Fire officials told Channel 2 Action News the fire appears to be a result of an electrical fire caused during the storm Saturday morning.

The school was already closed due to spring break and still is set to reopen on April 10.
