Fire near Sacramento River Trail in Redding stopped at 2 acres; I-5, Highway 44 reopens
Firefighters stopped a fire that broke out near the Sacramento River Trail on Wednesday.
The blaze was reported at 5:50 p.m. in the area of Highway 44 at the Interstate 5 westbound off-ramp in Redding.
The fire made a run to a small structure on Palisades Avenue and burned through 2 acres on a steep hillside with trees and brush before crews stopped its progress at 6:10 p.m.
The southbound I-5 off-ramp onto westbound Highway 44 into downtown Redding was closed for over an hour Wednesday evening because of the fire burning in the area. It reopened by 7:45 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
The Redding Fire Department said it called in an investigator who determined the fire was "human caused," although the incident is still under investigation.
