Fire set in multiple units at local storage facility, officials say

Investigators are asking for the public’s help after a fire was set at a local storage facility.

The blaze happened at Simply Self Storage at 4720 Getwell Rd. on the night of May 31.

Around 10:30 p.m., Memphis Fire personnel responded to a fire at the one-story commercial storage facility.

The flames were out shortly before 11 p.m., MFD said.

No civilians were hurt.

One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and was taken to Baptist East in non-critical condition.

Total damage is estimated at over $160,000, MFD said.

The fire was intentionally set in multiple storage units.

A spokesperson for Simply Self Storage sent FOX13 the following statement.

On May 31, the Memphis Fire Department responded to reports of a fire that had broken out in our local storage facility. We thank the heroes of the Memphis FD and other first responders for their swift response and wish a full recovery to those who helped contain the spread of the fire. We are working with local authorities in their ongoing investigation into the source of the fire. The security and wellbeing of our customers and their cherished belongings is our top priority, and we will reach out to all of our customers impacted by this terrible incident as soon as possible.
