The fire department was initially alerted by a fire alarm at the Happy Moose Bar and Grill at 9436 Route 14, at the intersection with Market Square Drive, at 10:26 a.m. The restaurant’s owner then called and reported smelling something burning, but with no flames showing, and a water sprinkler had activated.

The restaurant was not open at the time and the owner and employees had already evacuated before firefighters arrived within a couple of minutes.

Firefighters found heavy smoke in the kitchen and several sprinklers running. Using a thermal imaging camera, a fire was discovered behind the wall backing the grill, with charring up to the ceiling that had started to spread.
