UPDATE: Platina Fire burning near Ono 100% contained; no structures threatened

Update, 8:30 a.m. Monday

As of Monday morning, crews finished mopping up the burn area around the 10-acre Platina Fire.

Firefighters fully-contained the wildland blaze on Saturday, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

No structures were threatened and no one was injured fighting the fire, Cal Fire public information officer Cheryl Buliavac said Monday.

The wildland fire started around 2 p.m. last Wednesday when a burn pile escaped control, Cal Fire said. It burned in the area of Nono Road and Platina Road, about five miles west of Ono and 15 miles west of Redding.

8:30 p.m. Friday

The 10-acre Platina Fire was 90% contained as of 7 a.m. Friday, according to Cal Fire.

Calm winds and cool temperatures Thursday night into Friday morning allowed firefighters to make progress, Cal Fire said.

Two crews are working the fire as it continues to burn five miles west of Ono.

No one was injured, and no homes were burned or are threatened by the fire, Cal Fire said.

8:30 p.m. Thursday

Cal Fire officials said the 10-acre Platina Fire was 70% contained as of 7 p.m. Thursday.

At least 80 firefighters were working the fire, which was sparked just before 2 p.m. on Wednesday due to a burn pile that escaped control. The fire is burning in a remote area off Platina Road in Igo, southwest of Redding

"Favorable conditions allowed firefighters to continue making progress increasing and strengthening containment lines around the fire," the report said.

10:45 a.m. Thursday

The Platina Fire was caused by an escaped burn pile, Cal Fire said.

8:45 a.m. Thursday

The Platina Fire has burned 10 acres in a remote area southwest of Redding and was 50% contained as of Thursday morning, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

No structures are threatened.

7:30 a.m. Thursday

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection officials are working on an update to the Platina Fire, public information officer Cheryl Buliavac said.

The fire is southwest of Ono.

Cal Fire said crews would be staying on the fire overnight with a goal of increasing containment, which was 0% as of Wednesday night,

Update at 6:10 p.m.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection issued an update on the Platina Fire at 6 p.m., correcting the size of the fire to 8 acres.

"Forward spread is stopped, fire is burning in a remote area with limited access, crews will remain on scene throughout the night working to extinguish the fire," Cal Fire said.

No structures were threatened and there was still no containment on the fire, officials said. There were 40 people committed to fighting the fire, Cal Fire said.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.

A wildland fire that started Wednesday afternoon about 15 miles west of Redding has burned about 10 acres.

The fire started shortly before 2 p.m. in the area of Nono Road and Platina Road, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

There was no containment on the fire, Cal Fire said on its incident page. There was no indication whether structures were threatened by the fire, and calls to Cal Fire were not returned.

Emergency scanner traffic indicated that air tankers were being released from the fire. By 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Pacific Gas and Electric Company cameras that captured images of the fire showed smoke from the fire had dissipated, according to online images at AlertWildfire.org.
