Firebug tries to torch cop’s BMW convertible in Brooklyn

A firebug lit a police officer’s parked BMW convertible ablaze while the cop was working in Coney Island Tuesday.

The officer — assigned to the NYPD’s Transit District 34 — left his 2002 BMW parked at a meter near the subway station on Surf and Stillwell Aves., police sources said. His car had a police-issued restricted parking permit on the windshield.

At 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, a witness told police he saw someone set a fire underneath the car, sources said. Firefighters quickly doused the flames, and no one was injured.

Cops are now looking to find the arsonist.
