Firefighter injured in deadly Sterling home explosion released from hospital

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A firefighter injured in the deadly home explosion in Sterling on Friday was released from the hospital Tuesday after days of treatment.

He was one of 11 firefighters rushed to the hospital after an underground propane tank exploded, destroying a home on Silver Ridge Drive in the Sugarland Run neighborhood. Two women living in the home were also treated for injuries.

Loudoun County community rallies around those affected by Sterling home explosion

Sterling Volunteer Fire Company firefighter, Trevor Brown, 45, was killed in the explosion.

A spokeswoman for Loudoun County Fire and Rescue (LCFR) told DC News Now that two firefighters remain hospitalized for serious injuries, but they are expected to survive. They’re being treated in the burn unit at Washington Hospital Center. She said both firefighters will have long roads to recovery.

LCFR and other frontline workers honored Brown in a procession of his remains Tuesday, traveling from Manassas to Leesburg.

Brown’s funeral will be held on March 4 at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg.
