Cody Kegerreis was born and raised in Monroe and has always been drawn to public service, a Facebook post from the department said. After moving up north and working as a commercial building repair and maintenance technician for a resort camp for six years, he decided to pursue his career in emergency medical services and became a part-time emergency medical technician for Missaukee County EMS. In 2019, he pursued a full-time EMS career and became a paramedic.

After starting his family with his wife, Danielle, and his sons, 3-year-old Owen and 1-year-old Elliot, they decided to move back to Monroe to be closer to family, the post said. That is when he shifted his focus to become a firefighter.

Once the opportunity presented itself this year to join the Monroe Fire Department, Kegerreis decided to seize it, the post said. He was hired on Sept. 16 and was sent to Schoolcraft College in Livonia to receive his firefighter training and certification. After completing the fire academy, Kegerreis officially began his career as a licensed firefighter/paramedic for Monroe.
