Firefighters say barn is a total loss and cause unknown of fire that killed some chickens

Several area fire departments battled a barn fire Thursday morning on the 800 block of U.S. Route 224 east of Nova in Ashland County.

At about 3 a.m. Ruggles-Troy Fire Department was dispatched for the structure fire. Sullivan, Nankin and Rochester fire departments, as well as Firelands EMS, provided mutual aid.

According to firefighters, the cause of the fire is undetermined, the barn is a total loss and some chickens died in the blaze.
