Firefighters battle blaze at building in Winchester, Indiana; investigation underway

Multiple fire departments were called to battle a large fire that broke out at a building in Winchester, Indiana Saturday night.

Winchester Fire Chief Dwayne Wiggans told News Center 7 the fire was reported around 8 p.m. at the “Round the Corner Café” building on South Main Street.

This is the third fire in the building in the last 15 years, Wiggans said. All were under different ownership and determined by the State Fire Marshall office to be accidental.

The Corner Café suffered the most damage, but several other neighboring businesses had smoke damage and minor fire damage, Wiggans said.

Five fire departments were on scene battling the fire, which took approximately four hours to extinguish.

One firefighter was treated and released for heat related symptoms, according to Wiggans.

The fire is under investigation at this time by the Winchester Fire Department and Indiana Fire Marshall office.
