Firefighters battle early morning fire in vacant Lawrenceville building

Gwinnett County fire officials are working to learn to what caused an early morning house fire Sunday.

According to officials, the blaze broke out around 2:59 a.m., at a single-story home near the intersection of Sterling Hill Drive and Towler Road in Lawrenceville.

Firefighters said a witness passing by stated the fire was spreading to the woods and she didn’t see any cars in the driveway.

Once fire crews arrived, they found a homeless person lying on the ground complaining of smoke inhalation. The homeless person was taken to Northside Hospital Gwinnett in stable condition.

After making entry inside the home, search crews confirmed the home was vacant. Firefighters were able to contain the fire by 4:09 a.m., with no other injuries reported.

Authorities believe the building was a single family home that was turned into a business.

Investigators are working to learn what caused the fire.
