Firefighters battled a house fire in a neighborhood north of Bear Valley Road and east of Kiowa Road in Apple Valley.

The Apple Valley Fire Protection District responded to the fire reported at 2:48 p.m. on Monday at a residence in the 21100 Block of Multnomah Road.

Arriving firefighters battled the blaze from the ground and roof of the 1,484-square-foot single-family home. Flames were seen toward the rear of the garage and exterior property.

The house was unoccupied, and the fire was contained in the garage with some exposure damage to the property. No injuries were reported, Battalion Chief Anthony Mejia told the Daily Press.

During the incident, firefighters were seen maneuvering around an old vehicle and through debris left inside the garage and the home's exterior.

Southern California Edison and Southwest Gas personnel also arrived to cut utilities to the property.

At one point, residents at the adjacent property used a garden hose to prevent flames from encroaching on their vehicles and home.

Neighbors told the Daily Press that the home had been abandoned and transients may have moved in.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and American Medical Response also responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Mejia said.
