Firefighters battle inferno at popular New Smyrna Beach restaurant

Firefighters worked early Thursday to battle a structure fire at a popular New Smyrna Beach restaurant.

Both the New Smyrna Beach Fire Department and Volusia County Fire Services initially responded to the scene at Ocean Breeze Tiki Bar and Grill at the end of Flagler Avenue at 6:32 a.m., according to a post on the New Smyrna Beach Fire Department Facebook page.

Heavy fire showed from the upstairs portion of the restaurant, so more assets arrived from Edgewater Fire Rescue, Port Orange Fire Rescue and Volusia County EMS. The fire was under control by 7:40 a.m.

The post said the Florida State Fire Marshall’s office concluded the fire was caused by an electrical problem.

“No civilian or firefighter injuries. Restaurant appears to be a total loss,” the post reads.

News of the fire spread with images posted to the Volusia County Professional Firefighters Association Facebook page.

The images showed the flames before sunrise and then personnel on scene later in the morning as smoke billowed from the structure.

No adjacent buildings were damaged by the fire, according to an update from the Volusia County Professional Firefighters Association.
