Update: 16 units destroyed in 3-alarm apartment complex fire in northwest Fresno

Firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze at an apartment complex in northwest Fresno on Monday afternoon.

Deputy Fire Chief Ted Semonious said the fire at the complex on Marks Avenue south of Dakota Avenue was called in around 3:50 p.m.

The fire began in one building and quickly spread to a second building to the west, destroying a total of 16 units.

Ten families were displaced in the blaze. Semonious said no one was living in the initial building due to construction after a previous fire in March.

Crews were able to stop the spread of the fire to a third building to the east.

No injures were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Twelve engines and four ladder trucks were deployed to the fire.
