Pigs, chickens dead, barn destroyed following fire in Darke County

A barn is a total loss and livestock was lost after a fire in Darke County early Tuesday morning.

Hollansburg firefighters and Darke County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 2400 block of Payne Road at 1:32 a.m. on reports of a barn fire, the Hollansburg Community Fire Department wrote on social media.

Upon arrival, the barn was fully involved with fire collapsing.

The barn is considered a total loss. Among the dead animals include pigs, chickens, and dogs.

The homeowners were at the time of the fire but no one was hurt.

Mutual aid was provided by New Madison, Liberty Twp., Greenville Twp., Fountain City, Lynn, and the Union City fire departments.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
