The fire at Bulldog Fire Apparatus, 17 Winter St., is not suspicious, but the cause is still not known, Fire Chief William Miller said.

“It’s not foul play, but we don’t know (what caused it),” he said.

Firefighters responded to an alarm at 1:30 a.m. and found heavy smoke inside the building. The business housed several fire engines, including the pumper truck that was on fire, the chief said.

Thanks to sprinklers, the damage was isolated to the one pumper truck, Miller said.

“The sprinklers did their job,” he said.

Hopkinton was assisted at the scene by the Ashland, Milford and Westborough fire departments, while Southborough provided station coverage. It took firefighters about 30 to 40 minutes to get the blaze under control.

No one was injured. The business was closed and no employees were in the building, Miller said.

The pumper truck that was destroyed was in a painting bay, he said. He would not disclose which community owned the vehicle.

The fire is being investigated by the Hopkinton Fire Department and the state Fire Marshal’s Office, Miller said.

In addition to its main office in Hopkinton, Bulldog Fire Apparatus has locations in Connecticut and New York, according to its website.
