Fireworks with fake ‘safe and sane’ seal seized from South Sacramento business

(FOX40.COM) — Fireworks with counterfeit “safe and sane” seals were confiscated from a business in Sacramento County, according to Sacramento Metro Fire.

At around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, officials said Metro Fire and other local agencies were conducting a code enforcement inspection at a business in South Sacramento.

Metro Fire, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and the county’s Department of Finance Tax Collection and Licensing office were inspecting the business after receiving a tip that it was allegedly selling fireworks illegally.

When personnel arrived, Metro Fire said an assortment of fireworks were found that were labeled with fake “safe and sane” seals, which were allegedly offered at the front door of the store.

Officials seized the fireworks and the sheriff’s office booked them as evidence, Metro Fire said.

“Metro Fire would like to remind the community and business owners that California has zero tolerance for the sale and use of illegal fireworks, and Sacramento County has a general prohibition against the possession, use, or sale of fireworks accept as provided in Article 7 of the Sacramento County Code,” Metro Fire said in a social media post.

In the unincorporated area of Sacramento County, Metro Fire said it’s illegal to possess, sell, use, display or discharge “safe and sane” fireworks outside of the time period that begins on June 28 and ends at 10 p.m. on July 5.

Officials said it’s illegal to sell “safe and sane” fireworks within the county’s unincorporated area without a valid license that authorizes such sales.
