Fireworks 'n more: How to celebrate the Fourth of July in Wayne, Ashland, Holmes counties

The Fourth of July is around the corner, and with it are a slew of Independence Day-related events across the tri-county area of Ashland, Holmes and Wayne counties.

From parades to firework shows and more, here's what you need to know to celebrate the 247 years since the founding of the U.S.

Thunder over Holmes County

Holmes County will celebrate the Fourth of July the only way Holmes County knows how: with the thundering crash of fireworks.

Thunder over Holmes County is Saturday, July 1, at dusk, which will be roughly 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Seating can be found anywhere around Millersburg and the surrounding area.

Ashland Fireworks and parade

Parade

The annual Push 'Em Pull 'Em Parade starts at 9:30 a.m. at Substance Church on Tuesday, July 4, when participants will gather before setting out at 10 a.m.

The scooters, wagons and other non-motorized modes of transportation will travel from South to Center to Walnut and to Luther streets.

Fireworks

Scheduled at dusk on Tuesday, July 4 at the Community Stadium is the Ashland Rotary Club fireworks. The show begins soon after the 9:15 p.m. pre-firework show.

Sponsored by Willo'dell Nursery, it will also celebrate 100 years of the family-owned nursery, according to an Ashland Rotary Club press release.

Per tradition, the Rotary Club will host a 50-50 super raffle to fund the annual fireworks. The raffle doubles as a long-term endowment for the July 4 event, according to the club.

Tickets for the raffle are $100 with a maximum of 150 tickets sold per purchase. The winning ticket could be worth up to $7,500, according to the press release.

The drawing takes place during the pre-fireworks show that starts at 9:15 p.m. when Willo'dell Nursery owner Dan Quinn will pick the winning ticket. Those who cannot attend can watch a broadcast of the drawing on the Ashland Rotary Club's Facebook page.

The deadline to order online tickets is 5 p.m. July 4.

Loudonville fireworks

The Loudonville Independence Day Fireworks are at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 4 at Riverside Park.

Wooster July 4 events

Starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, is the Wooster Fireworks Celebration at the soccer fields at Oldman and Burbank roads.

Nonprofits: Wayne County Community Foundation donates over $450,000 in grants to local entities

Organized by the nonprofit Wooster Fireworks Foundation, pre-fireworks events include food trucks and free entertainment in the hours leading up to the 10 p.m. sky show.

Fireworks and general event costs came to roughly $20,000 this year, said Gil Ning, president of the foundation. Around $10,000 was paid for by the Wooster Exchange Club; the remaining money was donated by the Wooster Rotary Club.

Before the show is a 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Ohio Light Opera concert in downtown Wooster on the square hosted by Main Street Wooster.

Orrville Fire in the Sky Celebration

Parade

This multi-day event starts Tuesday, July 4, and runs through Saturday, July 8, and is hosted by the Orrville Firefighters Association.

The annual Independence Day Parade lines up at 2 p.m. and starts at 4 p.m. on July 4. The Orrville Rotary Club, which is celebrating 100 years, and the Schantz Organ Co., which is celebrating 150 years, will be the co-grand marshals.

Paraders will follow the same route as in previous years starting at Ella and High streets and ending at Orr Park.

A "quiet zone" is designated from West High and North Vine streets through West Market and Depot streets for paradegoers who dislike loud noises, according to OFA.

Rain or shine, the OFA promises a parade.

Fireworks

Fireworks will light up the sky at 10:15 p.m. or upon the conclusion of the softball tournament championship game on Saturday, July 8.

If the weather postpones the event, OFA will post a rescheduled time on Facebook on Saturday, according to the firefighters association.

The bike trail, dog park, skate park and storybook trail will close Saturday to create a fireworks safety perimeter.
