Restaurant Week deals start Aug. 7

Hey, Bud! When is Restaurant Week this year?

Restaurant Week — actually a month of discount dinners — officially begins Aug. 7, and some restaurants offer discounts Aug. 3-Sept. 3.

Bookings start July 10. That’s when the restaurants are announced. The deal is for either a $24 lunch or a $39, $49 or $99 dinner of three courses or more, with 20% of the money going to the Lena Pope Home children’s agency.

Last year’s biggest contributors were B&B Butchers & Restaurant — that menu is already online — along with Rise n°3 Souffle, Fitzgerald, Mac’s on Main in Grapevine and Kirby’s Prime Steakhouse in Southlake.

The top 10 also included Perry’s in Grapevine, The Classic Cafe at Roanoke and Moxies in Southlake, so north Tarrant County came through for Lena Pope Home.

If you’re talking about fresh local peaches, it’s peak season at Hutton Peach Farm, 210 Greenwood Cut Off Road west of Weatherford.

The big peach festival on the Weatherford courthouse square is July 8.

Or if you’re talking about peach frozen custard made from local Parker County peaches, it’s ready in a cone, cup or concrete at Curly’s Frozen Custard, 4017 Camp Bowie Blvd.

As of Saturday, July 1, the 93-year-old Original is open regular hours in its newer location, 1400 N. Main St.

The owners kept the parking lots around The Original’s old historic Camp Bowie Boulevard location in hope of a deal to return. That location, open since 1930, is set to close Friday.
