First-year bowler Justin Kee already making noise

Justin Kee, a first-year bowler from Hurricane, bowled his first-ever 600 series at Dixie Bowl in St. George, notching a 611 on games of 211, 201 and 199.
Justin Kee, a first-year bowler from Hurricane, bowled his first-ever 600 series at Dixie Bowl in St. George, notching a 611 on games of 211, 201 and 199.

Justin Kee is the newest member of the 600 Club in St. George area bowling and joined a select group of bowlers with bragging rights to bowling a 600 series in the first year of joining a league after taking up the sport.

In fact, he never even owned a bowling ball when he first joined a league at Dixie Bowl for the 2022-23 season.

However, he's a competitive young man, and inspired and fueled by the seismic improvement see in his wife's (Kallie) game after getting a new fingertip bowling ball from Dave Myers at the Dixie Bowl Pro Shop, he cruised over to the same pro shop and had a new Motiv Sky Raptor ball drilled.

Fast forward to league play a couple of months later and building on the momentum of beginning league play with a 5-bagger in a 201, he navigated the lanes for a 199 game. And next, with confidence soaring, he tattooed the 1-3 pocket for a turkey to begin the third game, followed with a spare and a second turkey before finishing with a season-high 211, and paving the way for his first-ever 600 series, a scintillating 611 and a total of 17 strikes.

Away from bowling, Kee owns and runs UTV PRO'S, a business located in Hurricane, helping customers who need parts and service for off-road UTVs.

Kee was born on Christmas Eve, played football in high school, and spends most of his free time with his family cruising around the great outdoors in his family's UTV.

He's a fan of the Utah, Utes, and BJ Baldwin who;'s one of the most famous off-road racers in the United States and has won three Baja Championships.

On his bucket list is to bowl a 300 game and win the Baja 1000, the most prestigious off-road race in the world.

In other action, Michael Garcia merits ink for a season-high 704 pasting of Sunset Lanes, and along with a season-high 247 raised his Tuesday Mixed Doubles League average to 182 from 179.

And like Garcia, Devin Werner is another outstanding young bowling talent who hasn't received much ink this season in the narrative part of this column. However, he merits major kudos after putting together his best week of the season with a 227 average over six games between top-notch outings at Sunset (702-268) and Dixie (663-245).

Meanwhile, Fred Foerster's last big ink coverage was for a 300 in February 2022, and he grabs some here after throwing a terrific 686 set and 257 game, and Kyle Kidman booked a superb 681 including a clean 257.

And Gage Petersohn is a young man from Minnesota who's a student at Utah Tech and has a part-time gig at Dixie Bowl where he does a super job working the desk and also threw 20 strikes in a 662 series on games of 237, 234 and 191, while Wes Wells raised his 184 average after putting up a strong 658 series and monster 262 game.

Youngster Mason Bedford's (652-227) efficient outing should raise his TMD League average to 192, and in only his second week of bowling since back surgery six weeks ago, Brent Pollock logged 17 strikes, rolled a clean 244 en route to an impressive season-high 644, while David Lee (644-257) also delivered a first-rate performance.

And it was great seeing Jerry Bundy (636-227) create some mayhem on the lanes, Ken Schloman's outstanding 258 set the table for a 634, and Daryl Brooks gets ink for a 625 series and 223 game.

In single game play, Jason Mitchell (662) uncorked a 246, Paul Yessel (607) fired a 239, Nick Johnson (627) pocketed a 233, and Jordan Reddish smacked a 204.

On the women's front, Ashley Thomas (672-258) tossed 21 strikes in another top-notch effort, Debbie Lehnen (573-213) continued making quality shots, Annette Chugg (571-226) has ratcheted up her game of late, and Katie Fotheringham (543-209) threw 12 strikes in a quality outing.

Kathy Arnold(532) 178, 177, 177) was certainly consistent, Jamie Turlington (530) uncorked another solid outing, Hailey Bundy (528) is due for some bigger pin action, and Janet Parker mowed down 511 sticks.

In single game action, Kallie Kee (530 popped a 229, Pat McCabe (535) registered a 216, PJ Redhouse (580) tallied a 210, Lizzie David (508) rolled a 204, and Urainna Wright uncorked a 200.
