First Buck O’Neil Bridge blast happens Thursday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The first of three blasts to bring down the old Buck O’Neil Bridge happens on Thursday morning.

The Missouri Department of Transportation says Thursday’s demolition at about 9:15 a.m. will bring down the north arch of the bridge, and two more to finish the job will happen in the coming months.

MoDOT recently rerouted northbound traffic to the new bridge so crews could prepare for the blasts.

Thursday’s work marks another milestone in the new bridge project over the Missouri River that started in 2021 and is expected to be complete by the end of this year.

The Buck O’Neil Memorial Bridge was built in 1956 and is a triple arch bridge carrying U.S. Route 169 over the river.
