First Coast Varsity Weekly: Bolles' D.J. Moore commits to Coastal Carolina football

D.J. Moore is on his way to Coastal Carolina.

The Bolles junior quarterback committed to the Chanticleers on Sunday night, announcing his decision on Twitter. He had received more than a dozen scholarship offers, which had included Cincinnati, UCF and Tennessee.

Moore completed 73 of 139 passes for 1,101 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions for the Class 2M semifinalists in 2022, missing some time due to injury. He completed 62 percent of his attempts in 2021, when he split playing time with Middle Tennessee signee Jakson Judge.

The 6-1, 165-pound Moore is ranked as a three-star prospect by major recruiting outlets and a top-70 quarterback nationwide in the 247Sports composite.

Moore becomes the latest in a growing list of college-committed Northeast Florida quarterbacks in the 2024 class. Already committed are Bartram Trail's Riley Trujillo (UCF), Bishop Kenny's James Resar (Iowa) and Fletcher's Marcelis Tate (USF), while Trinity Christian's LSU-committed Colin Hurley is now classified as a 2024 recruit.

Coastal Carolina finished with a 9-4 record in 2022, one year after briefly breaking into the top 10 in the Associated Press poll.

Down five runs in extra innings? No problem for Union County.

The Fightin' Tigers fought back in another candidate for softball game of the year on Tuesday, winning 17-16 against Alachua Santa Fe in the bottom of the ninth.

Santa Fe scored five times in the top of the ninth before Union County responded with six in the bottom half, winning it on a walk-off single from senior infielder Hannah Rivera.

For Union County, the rally was their second major comeback of the game. Leah Clark, who went 4 for 6, had whacked a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

The teams combined for 38 hits and some staggering statistics. Amy Crosby, Grace Mattson and Madie Crosby, at the top of Santa Fe's batting order, combined to go 12 for 18 with five doubles, a triple, seven RBI and eight runs scored.
