First Coast Varsity Weekly: Northeast Florida's best cap lacrosse season in senior showcase

Nolan Parlette is used to stopping goals, not scoring them.

So the Ponte Vedra goalie's chance to try his hand at the attacking side of the game for a few minutes was a jarring change from the usual lacrosse routine.

"Getting to play a little bit of offense, scoring a goal, it was fun," he said. "I played some offense when I was younger."

More than 30 Jacksonville-area players faced off at Episcopal's Jangro Stadium in the North Florida Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Star senior showcase. The two teams, scrambled randomly into the Blue and Gold squads, played to a 13-13 tie.

Fletcher's Nico DeGance led all scorers with three goals.

On a night of skills and a whole lot of offbeat action, teams shook up their lineup at dizzying speed, attackers took on defensive challenges, and goalies like Parlette and Nease's Gavin Koors got the rare opportunity to tally a goal or two.

Parlette, heading to college lacrosse at Air Force, relished the chance to compete one more time alongside both teammates and rivals from high school.

"We're really just coming out here and enjoying a good time," Parlette said.
