First Congregational Church of Tallmadge welcomes new leader

First Congregational Church of Tallmadge recently announced that The Rev. Daniel J Doty will be the next senior minister. Doty has a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and taught in the public schools in Ohio and Illinois before perceiving his call to ministry. He previously was the designated interim senior minister at First Congregational.

Doty attended Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, Ill., earning his Master of Divinity degree. While earning this degree, Dan served as student pastor of the Ashkum United Methodist Church in Ashkum, Ill. Following ordination and three more years of pastoring the Ashkum Church, Dan and his family returned to Ohio where Dan was appointed as the pastor of Community United Methodist Church in Union City.

In addition, Doty served in the United Church of Christ and was called by Trinity United Church of Christ in Wadsworth as senior minister and served from 2005-16. He also served as the senior minister of The Bath Church, UCC in Akron. Following a three-year stint there, he participated in interim training at the Heartland Conference. Doty' also has served as the interim associate pastor of the Westerville Community United Church of Christ in Westerville.

Doty is a classically trained opera singer. He has lived in Italy and has sung with various symphonies and community bands in Ohio and throughout the Midwest. In May of 2017, he made his singing debut in Carnegie Hall NYC.

Currently, Doty lives in Wadsworth with his wife Amy and is the father of two daughters Kristian and Kaetlyn, son Sean and daughter-in-law Sara.
