First Covenant Church of Willoughby Hills preparing for third annual car show

Aug. 29—A variety of makes and models will be featured at the First Covenant Church of Willoughby Hills Car Show, now in its third year.

The event — scheduled for Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, located at 29400 Chardon Road — is free to the public and costs $10 for those interested in registering their vehicle. The first 50 registrants will receive a goody bag, which will include a custom-designed T-shirt for this year's show.

"The uniqueness of our car show is that it is a manageable size on church grounds," said Pastor William Nyerges. "Event participants like the intimacy of the show and the relaxing venue, and related family activities."

The show benefits ongoing community and outreach programs that the church offers, said organizer Rusty Ruckel.

"It has been well received by the general public in past years," he said.

Prizes will be provided by neighborhood businesses, and trophies will be awarded for best of show, best classic car and best hot rod.

"We serve the community through this with classic and hot rod cars, live music, free (Euclid Beach) rocket car rides, food and many car-owner stories," said church member Julianna Zingale.

To register for the show, call 440-943-3611.

A traditional church with a small congregation of individuals active in the community, First Covenant Church hosts five to six Alcoholics Anonymous groups during the week, providing a welcoming place for meetings.

In addition, Movies Under the Stars Night is an opportunity for patrons to enjoy a free movie and popcorn during warm weather months. There are also quarterly community luncheons that provide a speakers platform.
