WORCESTER — Rachel Monárrez officially took over as superintendent of Worcester Public Schools Friday.
Monárrez had been a deputy superintendent of the San Bernardino City Unified School District in California.
In April, the School Committee selected her to take over for Maureen Binienda, the longtime school boss who's contract was not renewed.
Friday morning, Monárrez released a video on the Worcester Public Schools' official YouTube channel introducing herself, outlining her goals and answering questions from staff and others.
"Working in tandem with the Worcester School Committee, we will take WPS to the next level of excellence," she said in the opening of the video.
