First Detroit stand-alone Chick-fil-A location planned

Plans are in the works for a Chick-fil-A restaurant to be built on Detroit's east side. Developers of the project presented plans last Wednesday at an East English Village neighborhood association general meeting.

The location for the cult-favorite (and oft-criticized) Chick-fil-A is planned for Mack Avenue and Marseilles Street, not far from Grosse Pointe.

Verus Development Group confirmed the location to the Free Press and that the project is in the planning stages.

Chick-fil-A declined to confirm the location.

The location will be Detroit's first stand-alone Chick-fil-A location. (There is one location inside Detroit Medical Center.) This east-side location will offer drive-thru-only, service according to the developers. The location will not have a dining room, though outdoor patio seating is planned. At about 3,000 square feet, this location is smaller than a typical Chick-fil-A.

Plans are for construction to begin in the summer with an opening in the fall, according to the meeting presentation. The restaurant is nearby other chains on Mack Avenue, including Chipotle, McDonald's, and Starbucks locations. City approval is still needed for the project, according to the developers.

There are about a dozen Chick-fil-A locations in metro Detroit, from Woodhaven to Shelby Township. In mid-January, a Chick-fil-A opened at 11700 Middlebelt Rd in Livonia. The chain is known for its chicken sandwiches that are fried or grilled and served on a bun with pickles.

Chick-fil-A ranks as a popular fast-food chain with consumers. For the eighth year in a row, the chain remained in the top spot for fast on the American Customers Satisfaction Index’s (ACSI) 2022 report. Chick-fil-A restaurants are closed on Sundays.
