Russian representatives voted against approving Malta as chair of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2024, Brussels correspondent for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Rikard Jozwiak, reported on Twitter on Nov. 23.

The Russians also blocked the appointment of four senior officials within the organization, including the Secretary-General.

"They want Lavrov to be welcomed in North Macedonia next week for the OSCE ministerial, taking the final decision," Jozwiak wrote.

Representatives of Russia and Belarus vetoed the election of Estonia as the next OSCE chair in 2024 on Nov. 21.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba proposed Russia’s expulsion from the OSCE on Oct. 16.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE recognized Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and Wagner PMC as a terrorist organization on July 4.
