First-ever Township Blues Festival is coming up. Here's what to expect

The Township Blues Festival is the newest fall festival in the Jackson metropolitan area and will be held at 3 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Township at Colony Park in Ridgeland for what promises to be a fun night of live blues music from great musicians with food, drinks and more.

“The owners of Township wanted to do something out in the fall, so I came up with the idea of a blues festival,” said Richard Greenlee, festival organizer. "We’re thrilled to be announcing an incredible lineup for our first annual Township Blues Festival at the Township at Colony Park in Ridgeland. Our goal is to create a new yearly event that celebrates blues music in the birthplace of the blues — Mississippi. With this lineup, we’re excited to offer music fans in the area a unique opportunity to enjoy an outstanding show from some of the premiere blues acts out there.”

This year will be a one-day festival event with seven hours of blues music performances from legendary artists, including show opener Jimmy "Duck" Holmes, owner of Mississippi's oldest surviving juke joint, the Blue Front Cafe and Jarekus Singleton, a guitarist from Clinton to name a few.

A few special guest performers are in the works, Greenlee said.

The Township has done a Jazz festival for 16 years that is smaller than this year's Blues Festival that organizers said will be a little different with full production, stage, sound and lighting.

"This event Is to build a music community and lifestyle and bring visitors to the Jackson area, and we intend to do a two-day event every year going forward in the fall to make it a two-day premiere blues festival for the Jackson greater area, Ridgeland and the Township." Greenlee said.

The festival’s lineup includes performances by:

  • Brandon “Taz” Niederauer

  • Cedric Burnside

  • Ghost Town Blues Band

  • Jarekus Singleton

  • Jimmy “Duck” Holmes

More: Bojangles Southern chicken appears to be close to opening in Flowood. What we know

Attendees are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs and college football fans will have an exclusive gameday zone to watch their favorite teams play while at the festival.

The Township Blues Festival is presented by major sponsors Renova Roofing, Wratchet Entertainment Group, Busch Light, Michelob Ultra and brought to you in part by Visit Ridgeland and Southern Beverage Company. The project is partially funded by a grant through Visit Mississippi, organizers said.
