First Farmers and Merchants Bank added Sam Short as a Trust Officer in its main office in Columbia.

In his new role as Trust Officer, Short will administer and oversee trust accounts, administer estates, and work closely with customers to understand their unique needs and goals.

He will also work with First Farmers’ Trust and Wealth Management Team to construct and manage investment portfolios for his clients.

“We are delighted to have Sam join our outstanding Trust and Wealth Management Team,” said Brian K. Williams, CEO of First Farmers and Merchants Bank.

“With his deep connection to our Maury and Lawrence County communities along with his legal expertise, Sam will be a tremendous asset to individuals and families seeking advice on their financial and estate planning goals.”

Short has over five years of experience as a practicing attorney in both Tennessee State Courts and Federal Court. His prior practice includes client advocacy in areas of general and complex civil litigation, such as estate and trust litigation, civil rights and constitutional law, governmental tort litigation, and insurance defense.

Importantly, his work and experience were centered upon guiding his clients through the legal system, as well as helping them to understand its nuances and complexities.

“While I was drawn to the legal field to engage in hands-on problem solving, my favorite part of my job is working closely with individuals to help them find practical solutions to their personal needs,” Short said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a helpful resource to First Farmers’ customers in Middle Tennessee.”

Short previously served as an Associate Attorney at Batson Nolan PLC in Clarksville.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and a law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law. He holds his bar certification from the State of Tennessee and the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee.
