First of Frederick County's five budget town hall meetings planned for Jan. 9

Dec. 30—Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater on Jan. 9 plans to host the first of five town hall meetings about the county's next budget — one for each council district.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Brunswick City Hall at 1 W. Potomac St.

"Providing many opportunities to listen and learn from the public is of utmost importance to me as we embark on our budget process," Fitzwater, D, said in a press release on Wednesday.

The Jan. 9 meeting will be in County Council District 1, which covers the southwestern part of the county, including Middletown, Burkittsville, Rosemont, Brunswick and land west of Md. 355, including parts of Urbana and the Sugarloaf Mountain area. Councilman Jerry Donald, D, has represented the district since 2014.

Below are the dates, times and locations for the other scheduled meetings:

— District 2 — Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Urbana Volunteer Fire and Rescue banquet hall, 3602 Urbana Pike, Frederick

Councilman Steve McKay, R, represents District 2, which covers the southeastern part of the county, including New Market, Linganore, Ijamsville and parts of Urbana and Mount Airy.

— District 4 — Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School, 1501 N. Market St., Frederick

Council Vice President Kavonte Duckett, D, represents District 4, which covers the eastern half of Frederick.

— District 3 — Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. at Waverley Elementary School, 201 Waverley Drive, Frederick

Councilwoman M.C. Keegan-Ayer, D, represents District 3, which covers the western half of Frederick.

— District 5 — Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. at Thurmont Regional Library, 76 E. Moser Road, Thurmont

Councilman Mason Carter, R, represents District 5, which covers the northern part of the county, including Walkersville, Woodsboro, Thurmont and Emmitsburg.

Fitzwater said she invited the County Council's two at-large members, Council President Brad Young and Councilwoman Renee Knapp, both Democrats, to attend any of the town hall meetings.

Anyone in the county may attend any of the meetings.

People who cannot attend a meeting may submit comments online at FrederickCountyMD.gov/BudgetPublicHearing.

The county has encouraged those who need auxiliary aids or services for effective communication to contact the county's Americans with Disabilities Coordinator by emailing ADA@FrederickCountyMD.gov or calling 301-600-1110.

The meetings will not be livestreamed, but they will be recorded and posted online.
