ADRIAN — “Americana” is the theme of Adrian’s First Fridays throughout downtown Friday, July 1.

First Fridays will have a patriotic theme tying into the upcoming Independence Day holiday. Many First Fridays events are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Several downtown streets will be closed to motorists beginning at 2:30 p.m. Friday to allow for set up of the evening’s events and to allow businesses time to prepare for shoppers. Many businesses participating in First Fridays will offer specials throughout the evening.

Street closures will be:

  • East Maumee Street, from North Broad to North Winter streets.

  • North Main Street, from East Church to Toledo streets.

  • Washburn Street, a half-block closure to North Main Street.

  • Toledo Street, a half-block closure to North Main Street.

  • Toledo Street pavilion parking lot.

The streets will reopen at about 11 p.m. Friday.

The Adrian Cruise-In Car Show will return for its second month of the summer. Nova’s Soda Pop Candy Shop, 105 E. Church St., is the main sponsor for the car show.

First Fridays’ main sponsor, Mon Amour Salon at 136 E. Maumee St. in the Gallery of Shops, will host the Gallery of Shops game. Winners will win tickets to Sauder Village in Archbold, Ohio, for a single-day admission for a family of four.

Additional entertainment includes a bounce house for children, which is offered at no cost; food trucks; and the Adrian City Market, all of which will be at the Toledo Street Pavilion.

Live musical entertainment will be provided by the following bands and artists:

  • The Metros Band with Gordy Sharpe, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the corner of South Main and East Church streets.

  • Alias Band, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the corner of South Main and Toledo streets.

  • Blockhouse Valley, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Mammoth Distilling, 108 E. Maumee St.

  • Noah Martis, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Farver’s at the Croswell, 129 E. Maumee St.

  • Jim Rice Group at Hooligan’s Grill, 113 E. Maumee St.

  • Karaoke from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Randy P. Hill Post No. 1957 American Veterans (AMVETS), 122 N. Main St.

  • Karaoke beginning at 9 p.m. at Club 109, 109 S. Main St.

Adults of legal drinking age may take advantage of Adrian’s social district, also known as the Downtown Adrian Refreshment Area. While within operating hours and the boundaries of the DARA — just look for the blue line painted throughout downtown — adults can move from participating businesses with their alcoholic beverage in a specially marked cup.

Business activities and specials that were included in the city of Adrian's news release about First Fridays include:

• Faygo pop slushies and Hot Wheel races at 6:30 p.m. at Nova’s, which will also be handing out free popcorn. Funky Dawgs food truck will also be in attendance.

• Chaloner & Co., 108 W. Maumee St., will have 15% off Chaloner & Co. and Chaloner’s Cigar House stickers and 20% off all S.T. Dupont accessories. Customers who buy any three cigars will receive one select cigar for free, courtesy of vendors and while supplies last.

• Chaloner’s Cigar House will also have a red, white and blue sangria on special for $8. There will be a special table our front of the business with the speciality drink in DARA cups.

• Downtown Dempsey’s, 136 E. Maumee St. in the Gallery of Shops, will have outdoor seating available and will be offering samples of cake popsicles and edible cookie dough.

• Pat Cooper Studios, 130 N. Main St., will have art on display and for sale along with refreshments.

• Passion 4 Fashion, 143 N. Main St., will offer 15% off the entire store, excluding Brighton products; 20% to 30% off select summer apparel; and refreshments will be available.

• Sass, 114 E. Maumee St., will have 15% off everything in the store, and a specialty beverage with purchase. The Lenawee Humane Society will be present at Sass and will be selling catnip mice.

• Bohmey Beauty, 128 N. Main St., will offer 20% off all hair care products.

• The Buzz Cafe and Marketplace, 110 E. Maumee St., will host live music from Sounds of Yesterday with Kate Bossard and will offer 10% off total purchase prices when customers show a receipt from another downtown business.

• Tink and The Frog Yarn Shop, 117 N. Main St., will offer 20% off class signups and 15% off red, white and blue yarn. There will also be tables available for social stitching.

• Ghidrah’s Mystic She Ways, 120 E. Maumee St., will have mini reiki sessions and tarot readings.

• Nutrition 365, 110 N. Main St., will host local small business vendors and will have $1 off bomb pop tea bombs, buy-one-get-one free 16-ounce LiberTeas, and shake samples.

• Mammoth Distilling will have 20% off all cocktails and spirits and grab-and-go cocktails that can be enjoyed in the DARA district.

• Hooligan’s Grill will have slow roasted prime rib on the dinner menu.

• In addition to karaoke, Club 109 will offer free games of pool from 5 p.m. to close.

• XSell Realty, 129 S. Main St., will have chances for the public to draw for prizes, bottled water and popcorn.

• Good Life Tattoo Co., 127 S. Main St., will accept walk-in clients from 2 to 7 p.m. There will also be a drawing for a $50 gift card toward a tattoo of $200 or more. Bottled water and candy will be handed out. There will also be a surprise visit from Uncle Sam at the tattoo parlor.

• The Adrian District Library, 143 E. Maumee St., will have a fireworks-themed craft area in the front seating area of the library. The Friends of the Library will also offer a book sale on the main floor of the library, featuring hard and soft cover books about the Civil War and World Wars I and II. There will also be a variety of books with red, white and blue covers for sale.

First Fridays are coordinated each month by the Adrian First Fridays committee, the city of Adrian and downtown Adrian. Each monthly event offers a collaboration of artists, musicians, performers, businesses, organizations and volunteers to host a community gathering in downtown Adrian.
