First-of-its-kind Black-owned shop opens in Atlantic Station selling items by Black female vendors

Channel 2 Action News was there Friday afternoon as a first-of-its-kind of store opened up in Atlantic Station.

The Sistah Shop is a store owned by a Black woman and only sells products from Black female vendors.

“In this store are the dreams of hundreds of Black women entrepreneurs around the country,” Sistah Shop owner Aisha Taylor Issah said.

Issah told Channel 2′s Audrey Washington that she has a similar store in New Jersey, but this store is the first of its kind in midtown Atlanta’s Atlantic Station.

In the Sistah Shop, you’ll find everything, including jewelry, clothing and skin care products. And the store is opening just in time for the Juneteenth holiday.

Juneteenth is now a federal holiday that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.

“We know how powerful it is to celebrate everything that is Blackness. That is entrepreneurship. That is freedom,” Issah said.

The 50,000-square-foot building also features all Black vendors, in honor of the original Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Okla.

“What we hope is that this will inspire that next generation of entrepreneurs,” New Black Wall Street Market director Matthew Hampton said.

As for Issah…

“We’re expecting people to come in and just be wowed,” she told Washington.

Issah said she is excited to provide a space where Black entrepreneurs can thrive.

“A celebration of all this means for our ‘Sistahs’ and our people as a whole.”

This store officially opened Friday night at 6 p.m.
