First lady Jill Biden is coming to Knoxville on Monday morning as part of a nationwide tour to show how schools are recovering amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Biden, along with U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, will focus on bolstering the teacher pipeline on the first stop of the tour here in Knoxville and will head to Greensboro, North Carolina, in the afternoon.

First lady Jill Biden will be speaking at the University of Tennessee on Monday morning. Join us live at 10:30 a.m. ET. This page will be updated with the stream below.

Knoxville is home to the new Grow Your Own Center at the University of Tennessee, a $20 million three-year pilot program to prepare future teachers and eliminate the state's educator shortage. The number of students finishing teacher training programs has declined 40% in the last decade.

The tour will continue throughout the week with additional stops in Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

“It’s a great feeling to see yellow school buses drive around our communities with excited children who are ready to thrive in this new school year. I am thrilled to be traveling across the eastern states and highlighting innovative ways local, state, and federal efforts are helping students recover and succeed in and out of the classroom,” Cardona said in a press release. “This year will be one of the most important ever, as we not only work to catch students up, but put them in a position to do even better than where they were before March 2020.”
