Initial designs for the Deep Lagoon Restaurant at Bimini Square in Cape Coral are completed.

GMA Architects & Planners, a Southwest Florida architectural design firm, announced the progress in a press release on Wednesday.

"GMA Architects won Summit Awards from the Lee Building Industry Association for its designs for Deep Lagoon restaurants in Fort Myers and Naples," the press release said.

Here's what we know:

What is Deep Lagoon?

  • The first Deep Lagoon opened in Naples in February 2017 and is operated by Phelan Family Brands.

  • Deep Lagoon's offerings include a variety of fresh seafood sourced from the Phelans' fleet of local boats and other suppliers throughout the world.

  • Oysters are a major focus for the restaurant that offers everything from a raw bar and seasonal specialties to prime cuts of steak, chowders, pasta, salads, and desserts.

  • It also offers an abundant selection of top-shelf wines and cocktails.

What will the restaurant look like?

The press release describes the exterior of the building that will house the restaurant as "concrete masonry with neutral stucco, punctuated with complementary stone wainscot on support columns."

"Ambient lighting and tropical landscaping will provide restaurant patrons and passersby with a sense of place, and outdoor seating will be elevated to provide unobstructed water views," the press release states.

The inside has been characterized as a classy but less formal dining experience with a nautical theme permeating throughout the location.

A deep-blue, low-profile standing seam metal roof with dormers will round out the building.

What is Bimini Square?

  • Bimini Square is a $125 million mixed-used development west of Four Freedoms Park that will include luxury apartments, a Deep Lagoon waterfront restaurant, and shops on three sites south of Cape Coral Parkway and west of Sunset Court.

  • It will include more than 58,000 square feet of nonresidential uses, including office, retail, the waterfront restaurant, and 218 apartment units.

  • The project also includes a 25-slip transient boat dock, a parking garage, 500 spaces, and a commercial parking lot for the restaurant.

  • Medical office space comprises about 95% of the street floor frontage along Cape Coral Parkway. Lee Health will have a clinic at this location.

When will the project be completed?

Developer Larry Nygard, of Crown Development, said he expects the project to be finished in the fall of 2025.
