The life story of reggae music icon Bob Marley is finally making it to the big screen — with rising British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir in the starring role.

The first trailer for biopic “Bob Marley: One Love,” produced by Marley’s son Ziggy Marley, was released on Thursday. Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green of King Richard” fame, the film follows the “Jamming” singer’s rise to stardom, the social unrest that inspired his 1978 One Love Peace Concert in Jamaica, and his eventual death in 1981.

Also starring Lashana Lynch, Jesse Cilio and James Norton, “One Love” is set to hit cinemas Jan. 12, 2024. British actress Nadine Marshall, Michael Gandolfini and Anthony Welsh are also featured in the film.

Marley — who died of malignant skin cancer at the age of 36 — influenced generations of musical acts with hits performed with The Wailers such as “No Woman, No Cry,” “Get Up, Stand Up,” and “Buffalo Soldier.”

“Reggae is a people music,” Ben-Adir says as Marley in the trailer. “People coming together.”

Ben-Adir, 36, got his start on British TV before being introduced to larger audiences in Guy Ritchie’s “King Arthur.” In 2020, he starred as Malcolm X in Regina King’s acclaimed drama “One Night in Miami,” and portrayed President Barack Obama in Showtime miniseries “The Comey Rule.”

But real-life characters won’t be Ben-Adir’s only claim to fame. Fans can see him as one of numerous versions of Ken in the upcoming “Barbie” movie, out July 21.
