A first look at Redner's Fresh Market on Route 9 in Lewes. The new grocery opens Thursday.

The newest Redner's Fresh Market, the 45th store for the Pennsylvania-based grocery chain, opened in Lewes on Thursday morning.

Hundreds attended an open house the night before, where the store invited locals to try free food samples, meet employees and tour the new 49,000-square-foot facility. The Lewes location, off Route 9 in the Vineyards, is Redner's fourth "Fresh Market," a slightly more upscale version of the store that focuses on prepared foods.

Belinda Buras and Linda Simeone, who live across Route 9 in Lewes Crossing, were at the open house.

"We're excited we can walk to the supermarket," Simeone said. "It exceeded our expectations. I'm excited about the meats, the fish selection."

"I saw the Grab-N-Go, and I'm typically the cook. I'm like, I can run across the street to get dinner to heat up," Buras said.

The Lewes Redner's features a Grab-N-Go section of chef-prepared foods such as sandwiches, salads and dinner platters. Full-service departments include bakery, deli, meat and seafood. Redner's popcorn, infused water and sushi are made fresh daily.

Aside from Thursday's 8 a.m. opening, the Lewes Redner's is open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
