Being Human star Russell Tovey is encountering more horrors – this time in a new ITV series from Luther creator Neil Cross.

The first-look teaser and some cast photos have painted quite a spooky picture of The Sister, a four-part series arriving on screens next month to spook viewers in time for Halloween.

Tovey's character Nathan is settling into a lovely life with a new girlfriend (Game of Thrones' Amrita Acharia) when a knock at his door changes absolutely everything.

A face from his past (Doctor Foster's Bertie Carvel) reveals that the woods are being dug up, plunging them both into a mystery tying them to the disappearance of a young woman (Bodyguard's Nina Toussaint-White) connected to Nathan's new girlfriend.

The series, which Cross adapted from his own novel Burial, is set to be transmitted in October on ITV, although there are no firm dates quite yet. Also included in the cast will be The Sandman's Ewan Bailey and After Life's Tim Plester.

In addition to The Sister, it was also revealed recently that Cross is busy at work on a film spinoff of Luther with Idris Elba.

"I've maintained that I'd like to see [Luther] come to a film," Idris Elba told Digital Spy and other press after his win. "That's what I think we're headed towards, is a film. I'm looking forward to making that happen."
